The Club > Social Events

As well as competing, socialising is also a very important part of the club. The club holds a number of official social events during the year, as well as a number of less formal events. The club also runs a number of social running events. Our social calendar is made up of:

Presentation Night

The jewel in the social calendar. A night to dress up and recognise the outstanding achievements of fellow club members. The night involves a 3 course dinner and trophy presentations, its normally concluded by a bit of dancing.

Seasonal Dinners

The club usually holds a dinner to welcome in both the summer and winter competition seasons. These dinners are a relaxed atmosphere, with a self service buffet provided for dinner.

Club Gift

An annual event with prizes and of course bragging rights. The evening involves a men's and woman's 120 meter gift, a 800 meter woman's gift and a 1600 male gift. All competitors are given handicaps, based on the complex software of our chief handicapper, Ian Upton.

King & Queen of the Mountain

In a test of the toughest (and some may say the silliest), the club holds a run from base of Mt Macedon to the top. The first male to complete the course is crowned the King of the Mountain, and the first woman to cross is crowned Queen of the Mountain; there are also princess and prince awards. The day can be cold and wet (even snowy!), but it has become a club favourite, and is traditionally followed by a well deserved sausage at the local property of a club member.

Oddolympics

An event organised by the younger members of the club, one night of training is transformed into an array, of what can only be described as different events and games. There is backwards running events, chocolate egg hunts and wheel barrow races just to name a few. Usually held around Easter, so there is plenty of chocolate on offer.

The Boeing Handicap Challenge

Held down at Boeing Reserve in Strathmore, the Boeing Challenge is a handicapped 8 km race. While a social event, after each competitor recieves their handicap they know they're in with a chance of snatching glory, and the competition heats up accordingly. The run is always followed by a BBQ.
